Izzy Salant, UCLA
Isaac “Izzy” Salant is the Springboard Ezra Fellow at Hillel at UCLA. A Native Marylander, for most of his life he had never been further West than Louisiana, but now that he's in LA, he can't imagine living anywhere else. During his 18 wonderful years in Maryland, he was an avid member of Seaboard Region USY, and served on the Regional General Board and as Chapter President. After his tenure in the Old Line State famous for crab, he decided he wanted to freeze to death for four years, leading him to attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he received degrees in Theater and Journalism. While there, he also lived in the Hillel House, which was his housing for three of his four years. As such, he became incredibly involved in the community, eventually planning Hillel events himself. Many of those took his passion for theater and brought it to the community, including two plays he wrote; one revolving around being Jewish in contemporary society, and the other co-written with his friend from the David Project about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. Aside from a passionate theater actor, playwright, and wannabe Broadway singer, you can always find him with at least one deck of cards. He’ll be happy to show you a magic trick!
